Wood & Paper

Paper manufacturing processes: comprehensive engineering services from design to commissioning

Need support?

Since acquiring Chleq Froté in 2018, Ekium has integrated the company’s long-standing expertise and has become a recognized leader in the paper industry in France and internationally. We provide our expertise to operators of industrial paper mills to help them develop their projects, regardless of the scope (new facilities, optimization and upgrades of existing facilities, etc.), from feasibility studies through to commissioning.

Ekium works on paper manufacturing processes as a whole, as well as on the main auxiliary facilities essential to the production of pulp or paper (boiler rooms using all types of fuel, with or without electricity generation; liquid effluent treatment plants; vacuum systems; automated and/or conventional storage facilities for raw materials and finished products, etc.).

Your challenges

The paper industry is at a strategic turning point. Faced with environmental challenges, technological modernization, and market shifts, it must adapt to ensure its long-term viability and strengthen its role in the green transition.

Environmental

The environmental challenges facing this sector center on sustainable forest management, reducing freshwater consumption, lowering the carbon footprint, minimizing the impact of industrial effluents, and expanding recycling to limit waste and ensure the renewal of resources.

Increasingly strict environmental regulations are driving the need to anticipate standards related to emissions and biodiversity, while public policies support green industrialization. Finally, the sector must address major social challenges by training a skilled workforce and improving working conditions and safety.

Technological

Technological innovations, particularly automation and AI, make it possible to optimize production while reducing the consumption of water, energy, and chemicals.

Faced with increased global competition, the paper industry must strengthen its competitiveness by innovating, improving supply chains, and responding to a demand that is shifting toward fewer printed materials and more sustainable packaging, all while meeting growing certification requirements. The energy transition relies on the use of renewable energy and the utilization of wood by-products, particularly for producing biofuels.

Our strengths

For many years, we have been using the digital tools essential for professional design and engineering:

  • Process modeling for over 30 years (CADSIM)

  • Industrial 3D prototyping for over 40 years (E3D)

  • 3D laser scanning for over 25 years

  • Scheduling (MS Project)

  • Civil engineering and steel structure modeling (Robot-Eiffel)

  • Flexibility analysis (CAESAR)
