Ekium Wins the 20th Annual National Engineering Grand Prix!

On October 1, Syntec Ingénierie presented Ekium with the prestigious National Engineering Grand Prize for a project carried out in collaboration with the BEL Group, which will soon enable its Boué facility to become one of the first agri-food sites to recycle its treated wastewater.

A forward-looking project, designed to meet the challenges of a changing climate

💧Faced with a projected increase in production of more than 40% between 2024 and 2030 and against a backdrop of water scarcity, the BEL Group has set an ambitious goal for its Boué site: to significantly reduce its water footprint while maintaining its competitiveness. Currently, the site draws approximately 240,000 m³ of drinking water per year, a volume that could reach 350,000 m³ by 2030 if no corrective measures are taken.

Our colleagues Léna, an engineer specializing in energy efficiency and decarbonization, and Tchicaya, a process manager, join Thibaut BARTHELEMY, environmental manager for the BEL Group’s Squeeze France platform, in a video to present the methodology developed and tested at the Boué site (Aisne) to achieve BEL’s goal.

Our team designed and implemented a treated wastewater reuse (REUT) system with a capacity of 800 to 1,200 m³ per day, enabling the recycling of effluent to produce water of a quality equivalent to drinking water and, thus, fully meet the facility’s industrial needs, except for sanitary uses.

As the first factory in France to operationally implement the 2024 REUT regulations for use in direct contact with food, the “Close the Loop” project aims for an 85% reduction in the facility’s drinking water consumption, which is equivalent to approximately 250,000 m³ recycled annually.

Congratulations to the entire Ekium team for developing this solution, which is intended to be implemented at other industrial facilities facing similar pressure on water resources.
