GPNI: "Industry and Technology Consulting" award 2021

The Ekium and EDF Ingeum teams were rewarded for their intelligent and innovative early fire extinguishing concept.

An intelligent, innovative early-acting fire extinguishing concept

SHIAI is an innovation developed by Ekium (Industrial and Civil Engineering) and EDF Ingeum (Thermal Engineering) in the field of fire protection.

It is a fixed, proactive automatic fire suppression system that continuously monitors the air, is reliable, and easy to install. The system enables early detection of fires and/or explosive gases and automatically triggers the gas alarm and/or fire suppression via a single-pipe network. The all-in-one solution is non-magnetic and ATEX-certified.

The innovative "smart" SHIAI concept—short for Integrated Hybrid Fire Protection System—is a reliable and eco-friendly solution that meets all expectations:

  • By integrating a smoke detector with a water mist suppression system, SHIAI eliminates most of the drawbacks inherent in pre-action fire suppression systems,

  • The SHIAI solution’s footprint is minimized,

  • The solution provides better fire protection for industrial facilities at an optimized cost,

  • Installation and maintenance costs are significantly reduced,

  • The SHIAI is significantly more effective than a conventional automatic fire suppression system controlled by a traditional fire alarm panel.

A long-term partnership between EDF and Ekium

At present, EDF Ingeum and Ekium are looking for an industrial partner in the fire safety sector to develop the concept, build a prototype, produce and market the SHIAI under the partner's brand name.

2016

Ekium and EDF Ingeum have won first prize in the innovation competition organized by EDF.

2017

The SHIAI innovation is patented.
